Firstly we’d like to wish you all a belated Happy New Year! Rather excitingly we are in India for the first two weeks of 2016 soaking up the incredible culture, indulging in the amazing food and hoping to visit one of our charitable partner's, the Akshaya Patra Foundation, food kitchens in Bangalore. I’m currently writing this blog in the tranquil surroundings of Lake Pichola in the divine city of Udaipur – I hope we take some of this peace and calm with us into 2016 as it promises to be a hectic one!
Looking back on 2015 feels good. As ever with a start-up business there were the usual highs and lows but most importantly Darlo continues to grow and we continue to learn about the funny old world of babywear! We have a new collection all of course in 100% organic cotton coming in February 2016 which we are beyond excited about but enough about that for now as we’ll be letting you know all about that shortly – more than just a few times we’d imagine ;)
In 2015 Our A Little Giving Food programme continued to provide weeks’ of meals for school children. We are delighted to say that via Akshaya Patra we donated a further 599 weeks’ of meals this year, taking the total count since we began in October 2014 to 678 weeks’ meals. We’ve been blown away by the reaction to the prorgamme which of course would not have been possible without you, our fabulous customers so we’d like to say a huge thank you for your continued support this year. The 1000 weeks’ of meals donated milestone is well and truly in sight and we are absolutely motivated to plan that party!
Building on the idea of giving back and responsibility we launched the first A Little Giving Market that took place at Camden. We had 10 stands and worked with some terrific socially responsible brands that all gave something back to a relevant community to them. It was so encouraging seeing the positive reaction from Camden market goers to the products on offer and we really hoped that we raised some awareness of the decisions and the implications of those decisions that are often felt in other parts of the world. 2016 will see the A Little Giving Market back bigger and better!
We also decided to enter a few start-up competitions this year which went well! Of course these competitions had prizes that we wanted to win but they also provided opportunities to meet other start-ups and small businesses which is always so enriching. We made the semi-finals of The Pitch 2015 – Britain’s biggest small business competition. We were also selected as one of the UK’s top 100 small enterprises and invited to take part in Small Business Saturday – an initiative that champions the importance of small businesses to the UK economy. This was brilliant and Chloe even got to head to 11 Downing Street for an event hosted by George Osbourne (selfie with George taken of course!)
So that was our reflection on 2015! Next blog it’s time to look to the future. Exciting times ahead! Now back to some peace and quiet before it all begins!
